What do we need to reboot TroubleMaker?
We need to raise RMB 1M to sustain our operations for a year. This gives us the time we need to become long-term sustainable. The 1M will go towards
- the rent of the location
- upgrading our labs

- salaries for the people who operate the space
How did we get to this point?
We started TroubleMaker in May 2016 and 250 people joined our opening party two months later.
Enthusiasts young and old from over 20 countries joined the workshops.
All 250 guests loved the tours through the lab where they are allowed to try everything.
Every tummy should be satisfied, so we ordered those huge Warehouse pizza's twice.
Reporters of four newspapers listened and wrote eagerly at the press conference.
The first diplomatic visitor was -half a year later- the Ambassador of Switzerland.
More than 16,000 people visited our space from May 2016 to December 2019.
In January 2021, our landlord closed their doors and we moved everything to Bao'an.
But we promised we will return to Huaqiangbei once the borders reopen.
Why did we choose the Black Ark?
The Black Ark transformed from a parking garage into a hardware Innovation Center in 2018
We visited many locations and talked with lots of landlords around Huaqiangbei.
The Black Ark focuses on housing hardware companies that develop innovative products. Other buildings are market buildings or office buildings that don't support the use of machines. Before the renovation in 2018, the building used to be a parking garage. It is well protected against fire and allows for the use of machining tools that spark.
Our contract with the Black Ark allows TroubleMaker to provide legally valid lease contracts to our members. With this, our members can register their company at our address with no need for renting a 30m2 office.
The Black Ark has various high-quality event rooms and meeting rooms which we can use for our events and workshops. There also is a small kitchen and "phone booths" for 1 or 2 people.

Our room has 63A and 16A breakers, so we can use any machine we need without issues. 48 power outlets make sure every machine and every desk can have its own outlet. Five large AC units in the room make sure we never have to feel hot. Our room has a large, private balcony and there are two elevators right next to our room.
Our goals and the goals of the Black Ark are aligned. This enables us to operate TroubleMaker from a 5-star location in Huaqiangbei at a reasonable cost and with a landlord who is our partner.

Case study
In 2016, TroubleMaker provided a scholarship to a a young American guy who wanted to make self-balancing wheels much more safe to use and couldn't afford the membership. He had never developed a product and he had no experience doing business with China.
In 2018, after pivoting his idea, he started his own electric skateboard factory and owns the IP on the motors, the tires, and the firmware.

Conditions of the crowdfunding campaign
The TroubleMaker Reboot Crowdfunding Campaign runs from March 6th to 20th.
The rewards and perks are ONLY available during this period.
The membership rewards
Your membership purchase is a one-time payment. It does not automatically renew.
You can choose to start your membership right away or you can wait and start your membership on any date in the future.
A 3-month Silver membership provides three times one month Silver membership.
We upgrade your 6-month Silver membership to Gold at no extra cost to you.
We upgrade your 12-month Silver membership to Platinum at no extra cost to you.
If you cannot stay in China for six or twelve months, you can transfer your membership to a colleague or you can change your membership into a Remote membership for the time you are away.
TroubleMaker memberships are bound to a company or to a person. It can only be transferred to someone else if we agree.
The support perks
Your support perk is a one-time payment and includes freebies and privileges.
Backing our campaign with a support perk does not mean you must buy a membership later on. It is totally okay to enjoy the benefits of the support perk and never buy a membership.
Most support perks include one or two discount vouchers. Each voucher gives you the right to a 5% discount on any membership.
Every Support Perk also includes a bonus discount voucher. The value of this voucher equals the amount you paid for the support perk. This voucher can be used to purchase one membership. The voucher cannot be used in combination with other discounts. We do not return money in case the price of the membership is lower than the value of the voucher.
You don't have to buy your membership right away, your vouchers stay valid for one year. We will remind you once in a while to use your discount voucher, especially near the end of the year when the vouchers are about to expire.
Discount vouchers are bound to a company or to a person. They can be used to buy a membership for the company or the person they are bound to. You can only transfer discount vouchers to someone else if we agree.
How to pay
We use Yoopay as our payment processor. Yoopay works with both domestic payment methods and with international credit cards. These are the payment methods Yoopay accepts:

We provide a legally qualifying invoice for payments made by foreign companies and fapiao for payments made by Chinese companies.
Agency members and Manufacturer members with a Chinese company pay straight to our company bank account.
What happens if we don't reach our goal of 1M?
Reaching our goal means we can operate with peace of mind. With a complete setup and enough runway, we can focus on what we do best: providing you with a straight-A service.
However, we can still start if we don't reach our goal of RMB 1M. We can move our tools and machines from Bao'an to Huaqiangbei and only buy what's missing. We can start with simpler furniture and buy large, electric sit/stand desks at a later moment. And also the cleanroom we plan to build could wait.

Developers often need help from service suppliers such as Freelancers and Agencies with a team. For example Industrial Designers. Engineers, Legal advisors, Sourcing agents, Certification specialists, and so on.
The good thing is that Agencies also need Developers to sustain their business. That is why TroubleMaker also has a membership with benefits that cater to the need of Agencies. If you run an agency, this is the best moment to get on board!
The same is true for Manufacturers. Developers need Manufacturers and vice versa. If you are a manufacturer in China, ask us how TroubleMaker can be a profitable extension to your company!

If you cannot stay in China for the full period of your 3-month membership, then you can:
- transfer your membership to a colleague, or
- use only 1 month of your membership and keep the two other months for a later date, or
- change your TroubleMaker Shenzhen membership into a Remote membership. You can change it back to a Shenzhen membership later.
The answer to this question depends on if you have registered your Chinese company at our address or not.
If you have registered your Chinese company at our address, then your TroubleMaker Shenzhen membership continues for the full period.
- TroubleMaker will continue providing remote services to you while you are not in China.
- You can ask one of your colleagues to replace you for the time you are away.
If you did not register your company on our address, then
- you can transfer your membership to a colleague for the time you are away and change it back later, or

During the campaign
- you can change your membership into any of the other memberships as long as they are still available, or
